Too Much Pride is a Bad Thing

In this blog post I'm going to be writing about pride being portrayed in the story Julius Caesar.  In the story Caesar probably gets killed because of 2 reasons, being too ambitious and having too much pride.  Pride is always a problem in stories like this because it can really get in the way of your goals and plans.  Too much pride is dangerous because people will dis-like you and know that you think way to highly of yourself.  In this story too much pride is being portrayed when the soothsayer tries to warn Caesar about his dark future and he just ignores him and tells him to go away.  That is a big reason why he dies.  Caesar also refuses to listen to his wife Calphurnia when she has dreams about him being killed.  His pride also gets in the way when Artemidorus tries to warn him about the conspirators plans to kill him in a letter form and he just ignores it and asks why his is so important.  This story applies to real life because if you have too much pride in yourself or are "big headed", no one will truly like you and you will end up like Caesar but emotionally.

The Lesson to be Learned from the Short Story "The Necklace"

The question in my literature book for English class that i am answering is, Do people still chase after wealth and social status today? Do you think the pursuit of status is worthwhile? In my opinion i think that mostly everybody chases after wealth and a high social status.  In our society today social status is a big deal and if you don't have a very high one or none at all then you just "aren't important.," which is not true.  The pursuit of social status is rewarding at times but it is more hard work to strive to be important than to focus on working for it and not worrying about it.  If you become rich sure you will be able to buy most things that would make you happy and make you enjoy yourself, but you would never truly find real happiness because you just don't know if your wife/husband/friends really love you for you, or just your money and physical objects.  If you don't care about your status then most of the time your friends and family will love and accept you for who you really are, not just what you have.  Most people in our world do not think this way, which is why they are always disappointed and not actually that happy. If you are too greedy then you will lose the people who truly care about you because you will take them for granted, kind of like what the women did in the short story, "The Necklace."

My academic goals are to have all b's and a's this year and to pass all my classes and get the credits for all the classes.  Another goal I have is to not miss an assignment or due homework.  My social goals would be to have my friends I already have and make new friends that are new to this school.  My spiritual goals is to participate more in chapel, and I would like to learn more about God, and pray more.  Not just for me but for everybody else and their struggles.

The Symbol of Violence that both gangs showed in The Outsiders

This is  violence that both of the gangs showed in The Outsiders.  The ''Socs'' used violence just to hurt people that weren't as good as them in their opinion.  The ''Greasers'' returned violence in self defense and in fear.  The symbol is the rumble at the end of the book.  It shows that both gangs would fight if they needed to so that must mean they are all violent.  Even the shyest character in the book, Johnny, wasn't afraid to fight when he had to.
